Board Member
Liz Bal is a Product Director at Jisc, the UK’s not-for-profit organization that delivers vital digital infrastructure and shared services that inform, protect and promote education and research. In her role, Liz leads a portfolio of services that provide trusted data, infrastructure and community-led solutions for the research and library sectors, including the UK ORCID Consortium, Equipment Data, Open Policy Finder, the Journal Usage Statistics Portal (JUSP), Library Hub and Archives Hub. She is responsible for the strategy, development, delivery and commercial sustainability of this portfolio.
At Jisc, Liz works with institutions, libraries, funders and technology partners to develop sustainable data infrastructure that improves the discovery, management and sharing of information for the public good. Her work focuses on enabling organizations to make better decisions through high-quality data, open standards and interoperable systems, while supporting a more connected and efficient research and education ecosystem.
Before joining Jisc, she held a number of roles at BMC and Springer Nature, where she was responsible for the development and commercial success of life sciences journals and led initiatives to support open and transparent research practices.
Liz also serves on the Board of Directors of OA Switchboard. As a member of the Open Library Foundation Board, she brings experience in product strategy, governance and the development of sustainable open infrastructure.
